Installing a Ceiling Light or Heater

Bathroom DIY

Scared. Walls are falling apart as I pull off the final layer of old bathroom tile. DIY tilers, can I keep going and easily prep the walls later, or should I just abandon my house and live in the woods? #diy #tiling

Is it worth Installing a Ceiling Light or Heater?

Have you got a bathroom that's always colder than the rest of your home? A little wall or free-standing heating unit is one answer, but there's another one, produced by Hunter: a zone heater that's a semi-flush ceiling light fixture that warms a typical bathroom in minutes. Since many people really value having a warm bathroom early in the morning, this can make it a no-brainer home improvement project to pursue.

Should You DIY or Hire for your Ceiling Light or Heater?

An electrician can charge around $200 to swap out the current ceiling light fixture with an Illumi-Heat fixture. If you have electrical experience and tools (Phillips head screwdriver and needlenose pliers required. Also be sure to turn off the power at the electrical panel before you start working on the wiring), you can buy the electriceal fixture for about $125 and save some money. You usually can reuse the wiring cover from the old ceiling fan. The zone heater installs in a typical 2-wire application with no additional wiring required. These units usually come with
  • A remote to turn the light and the heat off
  • A 500 to 700-watt heating element that provides heat. These require two to three 40-50 watt candelabra base light bulbs.
